Optimizing Your Regression Test Cases
Our regression testing pool grows enormously with each release. Every release we are straggling on deciding which test cases to select from it – we want to select the critical ones only, thus reducing the effort needed to deploy the product with acceptable risk.
Optimizing and maintaining our regression test case pool, will result in reducing the time for that analysis, it might (in most cases I know – it will) reduce the number of test cases selected in each release, and reduce the time to execute (of course) – all of that while not compromising the product or growing the risks for deployment.
In this presentation I shall introduce what regression test is from a few dimensions, identify regression approaches available for us today, and analyze what are the main factors that has the most impact on our regression test cases pool, and which are the ones to select and analyze in order to optimize it and get the most out of it.
I shall also review the assumptions I take which are the necessary actions in order to be able to start optimizing the regression pool.
