Practical implementation points that optimize the test process

Many (if not all of us) are searching for the best ways to do their job in order to improve the performance and achieve more. Yes, this is the era which we are leaving in – many results (which always must be the best results) shall be presented in a very short time – what business persons call TTM (Time To Market) – while not losing the required quality. One of our tasks as test engineers or as test managers are to find the path(s) that will lead to effective results based on efficient processes; in the 1st case we are searching for results in terms of better and improved test coverage, in the 2nd case we are searching for large scale, efficient and effective defect detection and in the 3rd case we are searching for points at the process where we waste our time while we could achieve more.

Many ways suggested and visible for implementation; few methods developed for that and my objective is to present the combined process which will show a way of implementation that accelerates critical defects detection. This tutorial developed due to customers demands; in fact it is based on real projects practice. Methods which will be sentenced in the presentation are: risk-based testing, quality risk analysis and exploratory testing; in addition, analysis of the Testing Process stages and points for optimizations will be presented and discussed as well as the ways to practically improve them. The practice is focused on projects of complex systems, delivered to telecommunication companies under restricted rules and stiff exit criteria elements – which made this more complex to handle along with tense delivery timelines.

Learning Objectives

  • Be able to analyze and identify points at the Testing Process that require optimization which can lead to efficiency and effectiveness of the testing group,

  • Be able to define the required implementation steps to achieve optimization,

  • Be able to understand the skills required for this activity,

  • Be able to practice and implement the optimization points discussed and the way to present measurements to the management.

Method of Learning

Presentation, case study, examples, class discussions, exercises.

The presentation will handle few case studies from real projects deliveries. Tools, test-ware and measurements that were used during the projects will be presented. Soft skills required for this activity will be discussed and the ways to present the success to the management will be presented and discussed as well.
